Two women who I interviewed as Weight Loss Superstars, Jen from Prior Fat girl, and Shelley from A forty something’s weight loss journey ran 10 miles this past weekend! As a person who has finished 2 marathons, I couldn’t help but be moved by these accomplishments. Running farther than you ever thought possible is an amazing feeling!
Read about Jen’s 10 mile story here. Jen’s story is especially moving because right before she lost 100 pounds her mother was killed by a car. She could have given up and gained all the weight back, but she’s continued to show that no matter what happens in your life, you can still keep going!! You are such an inspiration Jen!
And, Shelley, my dear blogging friend who ran 10 miles for the first time this past weekend. Before losing 100 pounds, she was a certified couch potato, but now she’s joined a running club, works out with a trainer and has maintained her weight loss. She makes me laugh because she calls her GARMIN watch Ricky Bobby. Please read her account of the race, it’s so great!
In case you never read Jen’s weight loss success story, you can read about it here

So yesterday when I picked my daughter up after work, she couldn’t wait to tell me her exciting news! Her 3rd grade class got their balance ball chairs yesterday!!
Basically, they are balance balls with feet that the kids sit on instead of chairs. According to the company who provided them, these are the benefits they have found for students:
• Assists in improving posture
• Enhances attention and concentration
• Improves learning through movement
• Incorporates health and wellness into the school day
• Promotes “active sitting”- with little to no disturbance
• Improves blood flow to all parts of the body, especially the brain
• Strengthens core (postural) & back muscle groups
• Improves balance and coordination
• Adjusts for customized fit to the individual
So, that’s a great step I think for our school kids! Maybe I should get one for work!!
And lastly, Dave from Year on the Grill is going to be hosting this weeks BSI contest, so he will be posting about the soon, thanks for doing that Dave!
Oh wow, I am so touched that you wrote about my race! Thanks so much, Jenn – I’m still in a little bit of shock that I actually ran 10 whole miles. I really appreciate your support throughout my training…means more to me than you will ever know. 🙂
How neat that the class is using balance ball chairs!! All schools should use them…and all offices!
balance ball chairs… those of us that nap in class would be in more trouble than usual
i love the balance ball chairs! such a neat idea. i wish i had one at work, definitely.
That is SO cool – love that they’re using those!!
And thanks for the links – I can always use inspiring stories!
Oh Jenn, so touched by your support for those two amazing ladies.
The balance balls are a bit scary for me. I can just imagine a full class of kids just bouncing about!
