Those used to be my words when I thought about exercise. “I don’t have time!” So, I would do nothing! Basically the whole winter went by and I had NO activity. Yes, I was still eating better, but when you combine eatnig less with moving more, it just makes your weight loss so much faster.
One thing that I kept thinking is that I don’t have a big chunk of time to exercise. I would tell myself “I don’t have an hour to do a DVD, or walk outside, or meet a buddy for a work out, that’s impossible!”
It seemed impossible until I started moving more all day in little bursts.
Here are a few examples of what I am doing…
First thing in the morning, I’ll jump on my elliptical for 10 minutes, do a plank for one minute and sit against the wall for 1 minute.
Then I’ve been either walking or riding my bike to work. It’s a 10 minute bike ride or about a 25 minute walk (1.25 miles).
During my work day I sit at a desk for 8 hours, so every hour I do what I call my “potty workout” In the handicapped stall because its big (and when no one else is in there!) I will do 50 jumping jacks, 20 squats, 1 minute sit against the wall and 20 calf raises while I wash my hands. I started out with only 10 jumping jacks and then I’ve pushed myself to do more. I drink a TON of water at work, so if I have 4-5 “potty workouts” a day, that really adds up!
Another thing you can do at your desk is ab exercises. Just let your abs relax, then pull them in tight and hold that for 10-15 seconds and release and do that for 1 minute. Another exercise I learned from Susie is holding your hands out if front of you, palms facing each other, then squeeze your hands like you are holding a 100 dollar bill and hold that for 1 minute. It’s hard!
Then I will walk or ride my bike back home (another 1.25 miles).
Then if I feel like I want to do more, I’ve jumped rope during commercials watching TV, or run to the end of my block and back during commercials.
So, instead of saying, I’m married, work full time, have 3 busy kids, do this blog, etc. etc. etc. and making excuses not to exercise, it turns out I have LOTS of time!
How do you fit exercise in your busy life??
I will close with this pretty picture I just took from my back yard, I think Spring is finally here!!
