I mentioned the other day about a nutrition class I am taking at a local community college and all the credible sites you can check out to get some good advice. One of those sites I mentioned, www.mypyramid.gov has opened my eyes more than anything I have read about so far about weight loss. Its true that over the years, you have heard about the food pyramid and what you should be eating, but for me, it was so impossible to follow when you thought of eating 6 servings of grain, 3 of fruit 5 of veggies, etc… What constitutes a serving? How do I figure it out? Well, by visiting the www.mypramid.gov site today, I was able to not only customize my food pyramid (based on my age, weight, gender, and goal of weight loss) but I was able to enter in my food intake so far and it will tell me what I am lacking in, as well as when I have reached the desired amount of food in a certain category. For example, for breakfast this morning I had oatmeal and a banana. For lunch I had a turkey and cheese sandwich on a bagel, some pretzels and carrots, with low fat ranch dressing. According to my customized meal plan, I have already met my grains category for the day! I would never have known that before!
At least for a few weeks, I am going to track my food intake this way and see what happens. It may motivate me to include more fruits and veggies so I can meet my daily goals!
For me, it made a real impact because it takes the guessing out of what you are supposed to eat and how much! By entering in what you are eating, it figures it out for you!
I hope you will use this tool in meeting your nutritional goals too!
