I never would have thought about this before, but my sister told me about Taco Bowls she makes at home. I said, “How do you make taco bowls at home?” We both love the Mission Low Carb Tortillas that are only 1 point on Weight Watchers. They are 90 calories and have 11 grams of fiber. If you have a 4 cup Pyrex glass measuring cup, you can lay the tortilla over the cup and place it in an oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes. It conforms to the cup, so when it comes out, it looks like a taco bowl!
- I add 4 ounces taco meat made from ground sirloin
- You could add 4 ounces of shredded chicken sprinkled with taco seasoning
- tomatoes
- lettuce
- onions
- re-fried beans
- black bean
- 1 ounce of cheddar cheese
- salsa
- onions
- green chilies
The sky is the limit to what you can put into it! I was searching to see how many calories are in an average taco bowl from a restaurant. Taco Bells Zesty Chicken Border Bowl weighs in at 510 calories and 14 grams of fat to Taco Cabana Restaurants Taco Bowl which weighs in at 1425 calories and 70 grams of fat! So, by making it your own, you can decide how many calories are in it by what you choose. This would be a great idea for a dinner party. Cook the shells before people arrive, and then have bowls with the taco meat, or taco chicken, and any other fillings you want for people to make their own taco shell. If my sister gives me permission, I may post her totally deluxe smokey salsa she makes. It’s the best!
