My sister-in-law Joan forwarded me a great e-mail today from The New York Times. It was written by Mark Bittman. He’s authored a bunch of cookbooks, and he was on that tour to Spain shown on PBS with Mario Batali and Gwenyth Paltrow. I’m adding the link; it basically talks about starting out the new year with a fresh pantry and what to get rid of and what to keep. It’s very informative, some things I would never have thought of. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/07/dining/07mini.html?_r=1&emc=eta1
Last night for dinner I made Jennie-O turkey bratwurst and turkey Italian sausage with sauteed green peppers and onions. While I was cooking them, I noticed there were a few recipes on the packaging, so I thought I would go on-line and see what other recipes I could find and I wish I would have had the ingredients for this recipe because one suggestion for the turkey bratwurst was making a bratwurst Reuben. Basically, you cook or grill the bratwurst, and serve it with sauerkraut, a little drizzle of thousand island dressing and some shredded swiss cheese on a toasted bun!
I like the Turkey sausages/bratwursts that they make because each one is only 170 calories, and 10 grams of fat. I know the fat content is still a little high, but I figure a Johnsonville brat is about 26 grams of fat, so its a little better than that.
Do you have any favorite Jennie-O products you like? I am also a huge fan of their 65% less fat turkey bacon.
